Masquerade
***September is my birthday month. In honor of that each day up until my birthday I will be sharing a picture of when I was younger. Along with that photo, I will attach something I would write to my younger self. If you are just joining in Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7
Some of your friends are trying out for the school play. It seems like a good idea so you do too. You get a small role in “Heaven Can Wait.” I think you have one line, but its all good.
You’ve always enjoyed the theatre, and acting. When you were nine you saw “Beauty and the Beast.” You were hooked. When mom bought the VHS you played it over, and over. When she went to work, you would watch it and act out the opening sequence dancing on the coffee table. To this day if anyone asks you, you could pretty much recite the opening song word for word.
Acting in plays and musicals later on gave you the chance to transform. You enjoyed it because it allowed you to become someone else. We didn’t quite know who or what we were.
Later in your life you will still “act.” You will put on different “masks” to become what you think people want you to be. I want you to know that you can just be yourself. Pretending to be someone you aren’t should be left on the stage.
When we stop wearing “masks” and “acting” we can truly be free.
