Reflections on my 34th year
***I started a tradition in 2015 where I wrote letters to myself on my birthday. These letters contain lessons I learned in the last year and things I wish for this year. Click on the date to read the other years. Here are the past two years letters 2015 2016 ***
Hey Boo!
Congrats on another trip around the sun!
Today we add another year to our life. 35. You are in another age bracket for demographics now. Thats kind of exciting!
In our 34th year our theme seemed to be to slow down and prioritize. We became reflective (more so than usual) and we became to really narrow who and what we would spend our time on. Things that mattered before didn’t seem to matter as they once did.
We reveled in quiet and solitude.
We found ourselves gravitating towards people who lift us and who we can lift in return. We enjoy long meaningful conversations, and more thoughtful discussions. We crave change, and action and align ourselves with shape shifters.
We self edit and only speak when something is really necessary. We’ve learned that some things don’t need to be said, and that words are often wasted on the wrong people.
Along with editing our words, we’ve had to edit out some people in our life. Toxic people, energy suckers, etc. People grow out of friendships and we have to guard our soul.
No is a complete sentence. No one needs an explanation.
Alone feels nice, and you love to be alone with the thoughts in your head.
Taking time to be still and reflect allows us to produce some dope creative work. We crave being creative. We demand the need to create everyday. Art, food, a beautiful space. The need to create constantly is a constant force within us that we can’t ignore.
The best thing about this year (Besides seeing Hamilton on Broadway) was that you are finally living your authentic self. It is liberating and it really irritates some people. Its sad because you wish everyone could have the courage to live their truth instead of someone else’s idea of what they should be.
In our 35th year we will add more stamps to our passport, and travel more. WE WILL CONTINUE TO WEAR BRIGHT LIPSTICK CAUSE WE CAN! We will make more time for writing, especially blog posts. You have so much to say and the world needs to hear it.
Do you have any birthday traditions? Let me know in the comment section. Thanks for stopping by. xoxo
